AI Safety Index

Privacy Policy

Who we are and what this policy covers

Consumer AI Safety, available at aisafetyindex.com, is operated by Prosaic Intelligence (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains how we handle information about visitors to our website and people who contact us about our research, services, or opportunities. The website publishes the AI Safety Index and related research. You can read it without creating an account. It does not currently offer visitor accounts, payments, or a chatbot for submitting prompts to the models we evaluate.

Information you send us

When you email us, we receive your email address, any name you provide, your message and attachments, and ordinary email metadata. This may include a correction, research contribution, media inquiry, privacy request, or job application. Application materials may include your work history, qualifications, and links you choose to share. We use this information to handle the matter you contacted us about. Please send only information relevant to your request and avoid including sensitive personal information or information about other people unless necessary and you are entitled to share it.

Technical information when you visit

Our hosting provider, Vercel, processes requests needed to deliver and protect the website. These requests can include your IP address, requested URL, browser and device information, referring page, request time, and response or error details. Hosting and security logs may retain some of this information to investigate problems, detect abuse, and maintain availability. This operational processing is separate from the optional analytics described below and can occur even when analytics is disabled.

Website analytics

When enabled, we use Vercel Web Analytics to understand which pages and research tools people use. Analytics may include page paths, referring websites, approximate location, browser and device type, and event times. We may also count benchmark selections, chart downloads, and share-button interactions, together with the chart path and export format. We remove query strings and URL fragments from page URLs sent to analytics, and do not include search text or email addresses in our custom event properties. Vercel describes this service as using aggregate statistics and a temporary request-derived visitor identifier rather than tracking cookies. We do not use session replay or record the contents of your screen. Analytics does not tell us who ultimately receives a chart you share.

Mailing list

If you join our mailing list, we store the email address you enter and the time you joined, in a database hosted by Amazon Web Services. We use it only to send updates about the AI Safety Index and our research. Every update we send will include a way to unsubscribe, and you can also ask us to remove your address at any time using the contact details below. We do not sell your address or share it for advertising.

Browser storage and interactive features

The application uses session storage in your browser to remember recent image and color choices so the decorative artwork can vary between visits within a session. The application does not send those stored choices to us. Its visual effects also respond to pointer movement and, on supported devices, device orientation; those readings are processed locally for animation and are not sent to our analytics. Where your browser requires permission for orientation access, you can decline it. The application does not set advertising cookies. You can clear site storage or restrict scripts through your browser, although some visual features may then work differently. When you use your device’s sharing controls, the destination you choose handles the shared material under its own policies.

How and why we use information

We use information to deliver and secure the website, investigate technical problems, respond to correspondence, assess corrections and research contributions, consider applications, understand aggregate readership, and meet legal obligations. We do not add you to a marketing mailing list simply because you contact us. Where applicable data protection law requires a legal basis, our purposes may be supported by legitimate interests in operating and improving a public research service and handling inquiries, steps you request before entering a contract, or legal obligations. Where consent is required, we will obtain it for the relevant activity and you may withdraw it. Visiting the website is not treated as blanket consent to unrelated uses of your information.

Who may receive information

Service providers process information to support our operations, including Vercel for hosting and enabled website analytics, Amazon Web Services for storing mailing list sign-ups, and Google Workspace for email and correspondence. People working with us may access information needed to respond to your inquiry or perform their role. We may disclose relevant information to professional advisers, to comply with lawful requests, or to protect rights and investigate abuse. Information may also be transferred in a merger, acquisition, or transfer of the relevant business, subject to applicable protections. We do not sell visitor or correspondence information or share it for targeted advertising. Browsing our published evaluations does not send your messages to the AI models being compared. Links to third-party websites lead to services with their own privacy practices.

How long information is kept

We keep correspondence for the time needed to respond, resolve follow-up issues, and maintain relevant records. A correction may need to be retained to document a published finding; application materials may be needed through a hiring decision and related follow-up. Retention also takes account of legal obligations and disputes. We keep a mailing list address until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it. Hosting logs and analytics are subject to the service provider’s retention settings and the purposes described here. Browser session storage follows your browser’s session and restoration behavior and can be cleared by you. When personal information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it, subject to necessary legal retention and the ordinary expiry of backup copies.

Security and international processing

We use access controls and safeguards appropriate to the information and services involved, but no website or email system can be guaranteed completely secure. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information by email. Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries whose privacy laws differ from those where you live. Where applicable law requires safeguards for an international transfer, those safeguards must be in place, such as an applicable adequacy decision or approved contractual protections. You can contact us for information about safeguards relevant to your data.

Your choices and privacy rights

You can browse without sending us a message, limit the information you include in correspondence, and manage browser storage and permissions. Depending on the laws that apply, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, restrict or object to its use, or withdraw consent. You may also have rights to appeal a decision on your request or complain to your local data protection authority. Requests are subject to applicable limits, and we may need information to verify that the request concerns you. We will respond within the period required by applicable law and explain any refusal where required. We do not discriminate against people for exercising applicable privacy rights.

Children’s information

The website is a general research and information resource. We do not seek personal submissions from children under thirteen. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate steps, including deletion where required. Information about child-safety benchmarks describes research on AI behavior; it does not require children visiting the website to provide information about themselves.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy and its revision date when our practices change. If a change materially affects how we handle personal information, we will provide an appropriate notice on the website or through another suitable channel. Where a new use requires consent or another legal step, updating this policy alone does not replace that requirement.

Privacy questions and requests

Contact Prosaic Intelligence with questions about this policy or to exercise your privacy rights. Describe your request and the interaction it concerns, such as a message you sent us, so we can locate the relevant information. Do not include passwords, payment details, or identity documents in your initial request. hello@prosaicintelligence.ai
